Tidbits

Staying Informed - We will be leaving notes in your mailboxes and post-its on your door. Please make sure you have emailed your room number ahead of time, otherwise we will not be able to let you know of any changes. The announcements about the ships daily activities are available in the Glory's daily newspaper, the Fun Times. Delivered to your cabin each evening, the Fun Times lets you plan accordingly for the next day. The Fun Times even lets you know what items are on-sale in the gift shops. Also, many of the activities are listed on a schedule on a TV channel in your room.

Swimming - The Glory has 3 pools plus a small "kiddy" pool. The pools have saltwater and there are fresh water showers provided so you can rinse off. Reportedly, the maximum pool depth is 3' 8" – enough to take a dunk and cool off, but, not really deep enough, or large enough, to swim in. Given this, the area around the pool is best suited for sunbathing on 2 tiered decks. Towels are available to sign-out in the pool area. If you don't return it, you will notice a $22 charge per towel to your account. The Port side of the Lido deck near the pool does permit smoking. The rest of the deck is non-smoking.

Shopping - The Carnival Glory's onboard shopping area is known as "The Fun Shops" and is situated in the atrium on Deck 5, the Promenade deck. You are able to buy sundry items, jewelry, watches, liquor and cigarettes. The values (prices) are all over the spectrum – great on liquor and cigarettes, generally good on watches, expensive on sundry items. And, as the ship is at sea, you will not have to pay a sales tax – purchases are "duty free". The liquor deals are excellent. However, keep in mind limits on what you can bring back into the country per US Customs regulations. Also, liquor bought at the onboard store cannot be consumed during your cruise – you will be given the liquor you purchased during disembarkation,

Working Out - An early morning walk around the track is planned for days 2, 3, 4 & 5. The jogging track and gymnasium are both located on Deck 12 – the Spa Deck. Entry to the jogging track (on the Sports Deck) is via a stairway from Deck 11 and the Carnival Glory's gymnasium is accessed via the Spa Carnival front desk. Aerobics and yoga classes are available onboard for a modest fee.

Games/Sports - Volleyball and basketball are featured onthe Sports Deck. Miniature golf is on Deck 12. Shuffleboard and ping-pong are also available. Check out sports equipment on the Lido Deck usually at the kiosk where the sell towels, books, etc. You will need your "Sail and Sign" card to check out the various items. If you lose it, you will own it. Yes, that includes golf balls.

Casino - The casino typically operates any time the ship is in international waters. Please remember that all plays will be charged to your S&S cards.

In-room Television - The Glory features an advanced interactive TV system in cabins that allows for guests to order shore tours, Pay-Per-View movies (for a fee) and room service from the comfort of their stateroom. Passengers can check on the status of their Sail & Sign account (onboard credit card system) through the system as well.

Smoking - Smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival's dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar. Smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony. However, Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, will remain an entirely smoke-free environment. Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival's ticket contract.

Tipping - Tips are automatically charged to your shipboard account unless you make alternative arrangements with the Guest Services desk. They can also be prepaid. Tipping guidance on the Carnival Glory is $11.50 per guest, per day. For beverage purchases, 15% is automatically added to the Sail & Sign charge. Room Service staff may be tipped at your discretion. Tipping your Maître d' of your dining room is at your discretion. You should tip if you received special attention or services from the Maître d'.

Daytime Dress Code - During the day, casual attire is appropriate, including, shorts, sundresses, tank tops, etc. for the ladies, and for men; shorts, polo shirts, T-shirts, etc. will do. Rubber-soled, low heeled or flat shoes are recommended while onboard.

Evening Dress Code - Casual - For the main dining room, gentlemen will feel most comfortable in casual slacks (Dockers, khaki's) – you could get away with a nice pair of jeans.  A polo / sports shirt or a button-down shirt is appropriate. For the ladies, casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts and tasteful jeans (no rips, cut-offs, acid washed, etc.) are all appropriate.

Formal Nights / Cruise Elegant Nights - While you will see the occasional tuxedo, you will more likely see a sport coat, dress shirt and dress slacks, or, a business suit (with and without neckties) on the gentlemen. For the ladies, ap propriate cocktail attire, elegant skirts, pantsuits and blouses will typically be favored over evening gowns.

If your idea of a vacation is to leave anything that resembles "elegant" at home, head to the Lido Restaurant (the buffet on the Lido Deck – typically near the pool towards the rear of the ship) on Cruise Elegant night. The dress code in the Lido Restaurant is always relaxed – shorts and t-shirts are acceptable at any time.
